Attitudes of Public Servants Are Telling

Power goes to the head.

James Madison agreed in the following statement: “The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse."

As did Joseph Smith: “We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.”

Statements such as the following from Barbra Boxer made recently during a committee meeting give me the idea that power has gone to her head, and that her motivation for public service was never to serve the public:

“Do me a favor. Could you say ‘senator’ instead of ‘Ma'am’? It's just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I'd appreciate it, yes, thank you." (Watch video here: Real Clear Politics Video )

How did the citizens of California end up with such an arrogant senator? James A. Garfield, 20th President of the United States, offers the explanation:

“… the people are responsible for the character of their Congress.

“If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature... If the next centennial does not find us a great nation... it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”

  1. Its always hard to tell someone who is in power what to do ... their mentality is their way or the highway!
